to make a Quilt!
This is one of my quick classes to introduce beginners to the joys of patchwork and quilting.
You choose the pattern you want to make –
for the jelly roll it could be this one:
or this one for a charm pack(2)*:
You choose which pattern you will make from the two above. We will supply you with the patterns, but you need to get the pre-cut packs as well as any extra fabric required. They are available at in Worthing, at Chalk Hill Blue, 105 South Farm Road in Worthing, BN14 7AX and Sleeping Bear Crafts on-line and Eclectic Maker on-line. Sue at Chalk Hill Blue is very helpful – please tell her I sent you.
. The Jelly Roll quilt is probably the easiest but the charm square quilt makes a great fast quilt as well and is less expensive.
We do not guarantee you will finish the quilt in a day – so much depends on how much experience you have in sewing, cutting and making quilts but you will be well on your way to completing the top and will understand how to finish it. Jelly rolls come in small and medium sizes – the jelly roll one requires a full 40 strips of fabric. The charm pack requires three extra 5″ squares as well as another 3/4 yard neutral fabric plus any extra if you want a border. You will be given the requirements when you book.
It will be a fun day. bring your sewing machine, manual and feet ( ¼” foot is important) cutting equipment and mat if you have one; spare needles, lots of cotton thread; filled bobbins of the thread you will use and a sandwich for lunch! (Do not worry about matching thread – we use grey if it is dark fabric and cream if it is light coloured fabric. Tea/coffee biscuits will be provided!
