New courses/classes in Billingshurst

Hi folks – I want to let you all know that I have joined up with CC’s Emporium at 10 Jengers Mead, Billingshurst and will be delivering some classes there.  I am really excited about this opportunity and those of you living there in that neck of the woods will find it easier to get to them.

What/when will I be teaching?

Make a quilt in a day – Saturday, 14th July from 10 am – 4 pm.  One of my favourite classes to teach.  You get yourself a pre-cut jelly roll or pack of charm squares, bring your sewing machine and sewing kit and I will provide you with the pattern (and also tell you what to do, of course, and how to make it)  I have taught this class many times and the results are super.  You will only be making a quilt top on the day – (there is a limit to what we can achieve, of course) but that is fine – you will be on the way to having a quilt when you later put it together – possibly in the class on 28th July).

  • Tutor: Ann Till,
  • Venue: 10 Jengers Mead, Billingshurst RH14 9PB, 01403 785724
  • Cost: £55

Log Cabin Block workshop – Monday, 16th July from 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm.  The first of 4 workshops on the Log Cabin Block.  It has so many variations that we could do lots of different ones, but will start with the basic one of course.  You choose your fabrics (either just for this class, or for the four classes, which will be delivered over the next 3 months), bring your sewing machine, sewing kit and in 3 hours you will have your block finished.

  • Tutor: Ann Till,
  • Venue: 10 Jengers Mead, Billingshurst RH14 9PB,
  • Cost: £30

Putting your quilt together  – 28th July 10 am – 4 pm.  Bring your quilt top, wadding and backing and let’s help you to have your quilt sandwiched and either ready to quilt, or even started to be quilted!  A fun and rewarding class for those of you with those spare quilt tops that you have made but really couldn’t face putting into a sandwich.  I will show you how to do it so that you can do it with confidence for your future quilts.  You will need your sewing machine, a walking foot for it, sewing kit and some other things that I tell you about, when you book your class.

  • Tutor: Ann Till,
  • Venue: 10 Jengers Mead, Billingshurst RH14 9PB Tel  01403 785724
  • Cost: £55

Beginner patchwork and quilting course – starting 7th September 10 am to 1 pm.

This class will start you off on your patchwork journey by making blocks which are increasingly more challenging while you are learning the basic techniques to make you a patchworker.  Over the eight 3 hour sessions you will make six patchwork blocks for you to make a samplar quilt.  We will be working on traditional styles as well as  modern patchwork.  Emphasis is always on accuracy, cutting and measuring carefully and sewing with care as well. We meet on alternate Fridays – 7th, 21st Sept; 5th, 19th Oct; 2nd, 16th, 30th Nov. and 5th December.

  • Tutor: Ann Till,
  • Venue: 10 Jengers Mead, Billingshurst RH14 9PB Tel  01403 785724
  • Cost: £200

So many things going on in my head!

Do you have that problem – I really do have a butterfly mind – I sit down at the computer – to check emails, or surf for something specific and something catches my eye and away I go.  Tutorials, bags, lessons – I belong to several sites which require payment – The Quilt Show and QNTTV or something like that.  I love watching and learning AND stretching myself and my knowledge. I keep learning new things AND keep buying things as well.  My friend from the U.S brought me so many goodies that I had bought and sent to her to bring over here.  – oh such a wonderful mixture of everything!! The best – a bag of 1 pound of hand dyed scraps from Ricky Timms and the fabrics are so beautiful – a total of 3 yards of fabric strips – minimum 4.5″ x WOF.  Any suggestions as to what I could make with it?  I will come up with something.

It has been a while since I wrote and really life has been hectic.  I have been trying to decide if I am a Modern Quilter or a Traditional Quilter.  Between my teaching and my quilting – I really love spreading the word about the joys of quilting.  Therapeutic is the word for quilting.  Recently read on Missouri Star of a woman who was born with a serious birth defect which required her to spend 2 months in hospital every year for her whole life, which was predicted to be early 20s.  She learned to sew as a teenager and started around 17 to sew while she was in hospital.  Well she has been making quilts ever since – particularly in the hospital – the sewing distracts from the pain she suffers – but she is now 62 – what a star – and she blames the quilting and the joy of both distracting but also so much happiness in what she is doing.

Back to my subject —

  • Well I prefer quilts which are NOT regimented into the same block in the same colours across the entire  quilt.
  • I prefer patterned fabrics – traditional or modern or reproduction or whatever – all fabrics attract me –
  • I think I prefer blenders which have been printed in a tone on tone way to solid colours – but also
  • I see the virtue in the dullness of solid colours to liven up the other fabrics in a print.
  • I have the feeling that modern quilting seems to choose the easy patterns BUT
  • I really enjoy some of the short cuts to make life easier – and different – well you know – nine patch to disappearing nine-patch and so on.
  • Other than matching point detail and my strict quarter-inch seam, I tend to do my own thing but still follow either a pattern or an idea. – Is that modern or me?

Over to you –

Ann

New class schedule for the Autumn!

So there is lots happening in the Autumn and I hope you have checked with my class schedule.

What a summer – now that I am back into September I can catch my breath!

First off – I have some major interest in the Tuesday, October 14th class – but would really like more bookings.  It’s a Beginner Patchwork and Quilting class which meets alternate Tuesday afternoons with a break over Christmas and finally finishing on February 3rd 2015!  So if you want to join up, just drop me an email to let me know.

Also, my Saturday class will not run unless I get 3 more people!  Pity since in the past, the Saturday class has always been popular.  Everyone is too busy I suppose.

As well someone mentioned the possibility of an evening class.  I am happy to run one – but I need more people to show interest!  Unfortunately, I don’t have the room at home to run  a class – so need to have enough people to hire a hall.  I will keep you posted if you will do your turn and let me know if you are interested!

Suggest you check out this wonderful crazy quilt I saw today on the International Study Centre email.  http://www.quiltstudy.org/collections/quilt_of_the_month/current.html

My Beyond Beginner Class is filling up nicely.  It is a second level Beginner Class which starts on the 15th September meeting alternate Mondays.  One of the blocks we make is a foundation pieced crazy block – the gals all enjoy it.

I must start my new quilt I finally have the fabrics for:  Be Colourful by Jacqueline de Jonge.  This is being offered by The Quilt Show, which I follow regularly.  If you haven’t looked in on it, you should – full of lots of wonderful information.  They are having a special offer now for $15 or so to get to December membership.  That is about a third of the normal cost for a third of a year.  – dip your toe in and enjoy – $15 is £10 or so – a bargain for what you get, that’s for sure.

Enjoy
