Storrington Quilters 2016 Block of the month –

lynette anderson bom002Above is the Block of the month we will be making in Storrington Quilters over 2016.  It is fun, full of applique and I hope everyone will be able to meet the challenge.  It is called Welcome Sampler and is designed by Lynette Anderson-O’Rourke.  Lynette’s work is featured in a book, The Quiltmakers, compiled by Pam Lintott of The Quilt Room in Dorking.  I will also be teaching the centre panel for my 3 x 3 hour applique class in February.  Hope you out there might join us – I already have several people interested. So come along – 1st, 15th and 29th of February – 10 am – 2 pm at The Old School in Storrington

So it has been ages since I written a post – most sorry everyone.  I have been busy – have made 4 quilts – 3 for may classes and 1 for our nephew’s wedding.  Today I taught a Bargello class for my Skill Builder/Intermediate group.  Hard to do and understand at first, but once on the road to making it, each were very pleased with their progress and result, I know.

bargello block
I would love to offer a one day Bargello class to make a super cushion – 26″ wide – so if anyone is interested in taking it, let me know and I will be delighted to run it.

I did post my course dates the other day and they can be accesses from the right here.

We were in the U.S for a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving.  Such a great time – our hosts were super, the children

ELSA ADVENT@home ADVENT CALENDARS TWINSeach received an advent calendar.  Both of the girls sang with their dad at a school assembly to celebrate their school receiving a national improvement award – I really did enjoy making the calendars and I hope their mom was able to top up the gifts for them.  Great family – lots of fun and great food.

Christmas is coming – hope you all have a wonderful season and a great 2016.

Merry Christmas – Ann Till

Sorted – Intermediate Quilting Class 2015

Well I really have to get better at WordPress – but it takes so much time to make a page – I know, if I were better, gosh, I could do a class – I would be faster at page making.  So I haven’t cracked how to text wrap around photos – or for that matter how to make a gallery, yet, because that would be really useful when it comes to my classes:  just open a gallery and put their work in- how super would that be?

So today I have re-written the Intermediate class description – yet again and this time I managed to get photos of all nine blocks they make in the class downloaded – but text wrap – no;  gallery – no; same size – no – but at least they are there and look almost decent – don’t you think?    So check out the description of the Intermediate quilt under my workshops and tell me what you think!  Here is the best photo of four of the blocks:

Four Intermediate blocks

Four Intermediate blocks

These are the Bouquet block, Lone star block, my applique block(unfinished as yet) and the New York Beauty block.  I love my fabrics – Australian (and by the way, it is an Australian turtle as well);  They are all 12 1/2″ blocks and we will be assembling the quilt after the October class.  I think I will keep to the same techniques/blocks  – strip piecing; foundation piecing; inset seams; applique; stars and circles, etc. unless at the end, the present students recommend otherwise!    Each one of the class, is using such fun fabrics and taking advantage of them as well.

Busy week – madly trying to finish my Becolourful quilt by Jacqueline De Jonge,How To Make A Becolourful Quilt and it is coming along but not fast enough.

I have also been getting ready for two classes – Beyond Beginners and particularly the Beginner class that started on Tuesday – they have so much to learn in that first session, it is amazing they can stay the 3 hour pace.  In Storrington Quilters we are making a Winter quilt with penguin appliques – and real penguin appligues, not childish ones – there are 17 different kinds of penguins, and we hope to include them all.

I am off to Cyprus for a week for sun, swimming, reading and relaxation. I will need it since the week I get back is just as busy.

Happy quilting

Ann

What fun this new course is –

Working on my new Intermediate Quilting Course!

So I came up with the idea of this as a group of classes which I ran three years or so ago.  They were fun and challenging.  I couldn’t keep it up as things at home were also becoming challenging.  So had to stop running them.

So have decided to run the new 2014 Interediate Quilting Class the same way I do the Beginners and the Beyond Beginners Classes – by making a Sampler Quilt where each of the block uses a different technique.  So we will be making blocks that include – Bargello; Celtic Knot; Dresden Plate; a Lone Star Block; a Machine Applique Block; a Box Block  (to include inset seams); Sashiko; New York Beauty; a wedding ring block and finally – a pieced Leaf Block (working with half-square and quarter square triangles.

The quilt will finish approximately 52″ and will look fantastic.  I was given some Australian fabrics last year so am using those as well as a few ethnic ones that work with them.  Here is my range of fabrics:

Dresden Plate blockBox BlockA couple of blocks of the quilt so far!

I am really excited about the course and already have 5 people booked.  Hope to have at least a couple more but will take up to 10.  I haven’t decided what the order will be but am busy making blocks, but will start out without challenging the group too much – take it easy to start until I know what the gals (and guys if any want to join!) are up to and how fast we can go.

We will meet the last Friday morning of each month – 9.30 – 1.30 pm starting on 31st January.

Must get on – I need more Australian fabrics, so if anyone knows where I can buy some here in the UK, could you let me know please?

Speak to you soon.

Keep watch of this space!
